Statement of Purpose

I am pleased to introduce myself as K.Nagasubramaniam pursuing final year Mechatronics in Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore, India and it is with immense pleasure that I present this statement of purpose for applying for the prestigious Doctorate Programme in your World Class Institution.

First of all, I am glad that I joined the UG programme in the emerging Department of Mechatronics, especially as it also coincided with my area of interest. I am also proud that this has enabled me to apply to a programme in an institution of global repute.

My deep routed interest in Mechatronics has made me call my profile “Automating Souls”. Please allow me to cite an example, where, while participating in a group discussion on Opportunities in Engineering, I gave a passionate lecture on the value of studying Mechatronics that stirred the interest of the other participants.

My interest in Automation and Robotics was apparent even during my schooldays that was further reinforced when I joined the Bachelor Programme. My hands on acquaintance towards converting basic electronics and soft coding into real world systems during my childhood days, has now enabled me integrate my knowledge of embedded systems into the mechanical streams which one finds in automation and robotics.

Some of the technical disciplines like C, embedded systems, Microprocessors, Micro controllers, Design of Mechatronics systems, Robotics & Machine vision system, Applied Hydraulics & Pneumatics and Sensors & Signal processing that I have studied to the core in my academics added a lot of value to my knowledge of Engineering. I believe the foundation provided by the above will surely assist me to drive to the depth of my research.

My Technical skills which I sharpened facilitated me to score the 1st rank in the University (till on date). My technical subject knowledge and experience on practical systems helped me to find a place in the top industries in India, who gave the whole projects in my hand to work with. In the similar way I believe this masters program will surely assist me to ignite the burning desire for research on my area of interest

I would like to submit that I am constantly doing practical experiments and various creditable projects to consolidate the theoretical knowledge that I routinely acquire in my area of interest. Safety, security and sophistication form the essence of any automated system. I would like to apply this knowledge to Robotics and Automotive technologies. Not only would I like to automate a thoroughly different system like a cricket ground, but also invent new automating techniques for achieving it.

My recent research proposals and projects of automation in automobile and mechanical systems via software has urged me to move towards involvement in sustained research and in search of the necessary guidance to attain some real path-breaking achievements and epoch making inventions in a domain that is yet to be explored. I am very confident that I can really master the nuances of this field which would enable me to attain the pinnacle of knowledge given the necessary resources, motivation and intellectual support to translate my dreams into reality.

Just as bees are attracted to nectar, so are students attracted to an environment where all their passions reside. Singapore has developed a reputation as the best place in the world for pursuing higher education in Mechatronics, and NTU is the jewel in the crown with world class facilities, infrastructure and renowned faculty. It is this that has made me apply to this course as I am very sure that it will quench my thirst for excellence in this field.

Also, my inquiry about the research labs, environment and faculty guidelines of NTU has ignited my interest to a burning ambition to do research in my chosen domain only at NTU. This statement is not mere words, but an expression of my inner passion and zeal for achieving the summit in my area of interest in an excellent institution.

I look forward eagerly to the honour of receiving confirmation of admission, and I assure you that I will put forth my best efforts to live up to the exacting standards set and also strive to bring more laurels to your great institution.

Research Proposal

My area of concern is the one which I need to specify here in order to express my views of interest towards the subject.

So when it comes to the subject I like to add automation as the first priority of research interest, the other areas that are allied to automation are

§ Design of Mechatronics system

§ Robotics

§ Automotive Electronics

Moreover I can say, Embedding software that is, Control information via soft code to the hardware system plays a key role in automation, automobiles and other mechanical systems.

As a proof of above, I’ve attested some information about my research paper and proposals which is aligned to my subject. I’m sure I can do something really innovative in the above field, for instance all my papers and projects are not modifications of any previous paper; but it is all new inventive ideas that have been formulated by my own.

“Scientist stops by providing innovative ideas, but an Engineer implements the same”

As an Engineer, I like to innovate as well as impart the same in my area of interest and wish to create something great.

I like to do my research on the respective outputs specified in the diagram with the inputs to the system as below.

These inputs are similar to the area in which I’m going to concentrate and wish to produce some innovative responses on either of the applications, ad hoc to the above.

I believe if I can get an opportunity to do the above, I can master the field of interest and invent something useful within my duration of study and even after that my space will continue which is going to be the boon for social division.

My life time goal was to invent something in some field that is going to be the first of its kind in the globe, but the word “some” has changed into (Mechatronics) when I joined the highly illuminating course of study in my Under Graduation. So I’ll be very happy to do the research for my higher studies in the place where Mechatronics is well established. Eagerly waiting to have a kick start of my future research.

Area where i have decided to do research:

The main areas which i like to concentrate are as specified above, as a research fellow i like to write papers on my area of interest and publish them, implement the same and apply patent for my product and research and like to add fame to NTU who is going to provide assistance for me on my research.

Most probably i like working, work on projects which are going to be real world applications that is going to have a social value. even the research proposals that i have submitted, presented are application oriented and have been accepted for Internships by many concerns to work for them.

I have one of the best ideas which i like to work/apply a patent for the same, which is one of my research papers which has been accepted by IIT-Chennai for Research continuation, but i like to do the same with NTU, because i am sure about doing a research in Mechatronics only from Singapore. Very much interested in doing the same, i believe surely i will have a place there to continue my research and i am sure about adding a world famous technology to the crown of NTU.

The main coding part i like to concentrate are

PIC programming

8051

8085 coding

MATLAB, Virtual Instrumentaion, SCILAB are the softwares i like to concentrate and intersted in implementing my ideas via the same.

I am capable of writing the Embedded coding for any type of application ranging from a Stepper motor to a huge Automating machine. all these knowledge i have gained from the projects, papers i have published in the International Conferences and that on the Journals.

With all the above description i like to add that i am really interested to start my research in an area which can provide the necessary support for me in my area of interest. Expect to start my research in the academic year August-2010
